The Hunter and the Trickster

Pastor Peter continues his study through the book of Genesis, stopping here in Genesis 25. He takes a look at another major shift in the narrative when we go from studying Abraham, to studying Jacob (who becomes Israel). Have a listen! “You get really know Jacob…” -Pastor Peter “Why [Jacob] is so significant for us as the Church even these thousands of years later.” -Pastor Peter “The wicked man fails to give an inheritance to his children that is spiritual as well…” -Pastor Peter “We have a desire within us and because we live in a world with finite resources, we fight among ourselves.” -Pastor Peter “We’re always going to be in a state of conflict, until we realize the redemption that exists in the relationship with God.” -Pastor Peter “Two personality types that Jacob and Esau represent (and are in all kinds of stories, if you know where to look)…” -Pastor Peter “Esau represents the Hunter and Jacob represents the Trickster.” -Pastor Peter “Jacob can’t get what’s due to him, so he uses tricks to get what is actually due to him.” -Pastor Peter “What is highest is good; you need to serve to what is highest because what is above you is actually good for you.” -Pastor Peter “Jacob never climbs the ladder.” -Pastor Peter “Instead, he uses his wit to try to trick God…No matter what Jacob does he cannot undue his character until God does it for him.” -Pastor Peter “The shepherd is the ideal identity- he takes responsibility for what’s around him and builds up resources for everybody.” -Pastor Peter “Everybody thinks politics is a zero sum game, that’s not true.” -Pastor Peter #genesis #bible #calvarychapel #calvarymarana #history #truth #hope #love #church #jacob #esau #hunter #trickster #symbols #literature #jackandthebeanstalk #childish #fool #jokes #god #jesus #unjust #power #politics #zerosum #multiply #wealth
